RODE CONSTRUCTION / SMITHLUMBER
A home is more than a collection of parts; elements, details and design must work together. To achieve this fluidity, you need service providers who embody that same level of connection in their relationships. Discover how Smith Lumber and Rode Construction use their decades-long, experienced relationship to build your custom home or home project exactly as you imagine.
Finding the right product for the application. When a client wanted an outdoor shower, Sam Rode, owner of Rode Construction, welcomed the challenge. “I work closely with the architect and designer. They design it and it’s up to me to figure out the details and engineer it to make it work,” says Rode.
Part of that engineering means turning to Smith Lumber to find the right materials and products. The staff at Smith Lumber researched products that met Rode’s needs, even searching outside a product’s original intended use. In this case, a thermally modified wood decking product was the perfect solution.
Providing the client with options. When the prospect of finding a hand-hewn reclaimed beam led a client to want other options, Smith Lumber found an alternative: a live edge cedar siding product that looked fantastic at a fraction of the cost. Thanks to Rode Construction’s skilled handiwork, the client loved the option even more than the original.
“We give our contractors different options to present to their clients to make sure they have choices in look, feel, price, and overall appeal,” explains Deborah Smith of Smith Lumber.
Custom materials sourced locally and globally to expand a homeowner’s conceptual ideas. Rode says Smith Lumber is the perfect size; small enough for personal service but with an excellent inventory of stock materials and knowledge of many different building materials, that can be procured from the states and abroad.
Because Rode can rely on his suppliers, he can be flexible as projects evolve, often finding ways to improve the design. In one instance, for a renovation project, rather than cover an existing stone archway with a wall as planned, the stone was left exposed at Rode’s recommendation. This simple re-design created a captivating accent.
From conception to design, from material selection to sub-contractors, and everything in between, Rode Construction and Smith Lumber are your custom home dream team that gives life to the imagination.
