CREATING SPACES TO SUIT LIFESTYLE

The family can now step outside from either the great room or kitchen onto a large, raised deck and have ample room to lounge, entertain, or enjoy a soak in the six-person hot tub from Clover Home Leisure. Off the deck is a covered stone patio, perfect for family gatherings and barbecues. A stone firepit next to the patio creates a warm and cozy place to sit and relax on cool evenings. “The kids love s’mores at the firepit,” the homeowner said.

KNOWING WHAT YOU WANT IS KEY

It all started with a rough sketch. The homeowners had been dreaming about upgrading their outdoor living space for years and had lots of ideas of what they wanted when it finally came time to hire a contractor. What they wanted and what they got was close, but the homeowner admits they did have to make a few concessions. “We did change [the design] like 20 times while planning, depending on the price, what it looked like, and scale to the house,” the homeowner said.

Fortunately, the contractor, Keystone Custom Decks, took it all in stride. “The beautiful thing about working with them was everything was turnkey,” the homeowner said. “We didn’t have to worry about finding sub- contractors or finding our own people. They took care of every part of the project from A to Z.”

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

The finished product blends perfectly with the style and appearance of the house exterior. The composite decking is by Trex from its Transcend ® line, in Island Mist. The homeowners preferred stone to pavers and selected Oakville Blue Ice from Oakville Stone for the patio. The veneer stone on the columns and other areas is Terra Cut ™ Niagara by ProVia ® , supplied by Sensinig’s Landscape Supply. The landscape design and installation was provided by Birchcrest Tree and Landscape. The homeowners are thrilled with the outcome. What was once an unusable outdoor space is now a place for the family to gather and entertain. “We use it all year long,” the homeowner said.
